Privacy Policy

SmartCaddie is an AI golf caddie provided by Enexia, LLC (“SmartCaddie,” “we,” “us”). This policy explains what the SmartCaddie mobile app and our backend service collect, how we use and share it, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. It covers both the app and the AI-caddie processing that powers your advice.

By creating an account or using the app, you agree to this policy.

1. Information we collect

Account & profile. When you register we collect your name, email address, and a password (stored only as a secure hash — never in plain text). If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive a stable identifier from that provider instead of a password; if you use Sign in with Apple, Apple may give us a private-relay email address rather than your personal one. Your profile also includes your handicap and preferences you set (preferred language, weather units, home course, subscription tier).

Location. When you grant location permission, the app uses your device’s GPS location while a round is in progress to calculate distances to the pin and to record where each shot was played. Your coordinates are also sent to our backend to fetch weather for your course. We use foreground location only — we do not track your location in the background.

Camera (Elite “Vision” features). If you use the optional Vision features, the app captures a short swing-check video clip or a single still image for green context. On our server we extract a few still frames, strip embedded metadata (including EXIF location), and send only those frames to our AI provider to generate feedback. The original video clip is never sent to the AI provider.

Your caddie questions & AI processing. To answer you, we send your caddie question along with context for the shot — the hole, distances, conditions (wind, elevation), and a player profile of your typical club distances that we derive from your own logged shots — to a third-party AI provider, which returns the advice. Our access to that provider is held only on our server; the app never contacts the AI provider directly.

Product analytics & diagnostics. We use a product-analytics provider to understand how the app is used, and a crash-diagnostics provider for error reporting. Our analytics are de-identified by design: events are tied to a pseudonymous account identifier, not to your name or email, together with your app version and a coarse country (not precise location). We do not send your name, email address, precise coordinates, or free-text to our analytics provider, and we do not use session replay. Typical events include app opens, sign-in, starting and completing a round, calling the caddie, viewing the paywall, and purchases.

Device & security data. To protect accounts we use device attestation (Apple App Attest / Google Play Integrity) and process your IP address for rate-limiting and abuse prevention at our edge, and we keep short-lived security event logs.

Purchases. Subscriptions are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play and our subscription-management provider. We receive your subscription status and entitlements; we do not receive your full payment-card number.

2. How we use your information

3. Anonymized data we derive from play

Two features rely on de-identified data derived from how people play — data that is not linked to you and, in the cases below, cannot reasonably be linked back to any individual.

Improving course accuracy for everyone. We derive anonymized, non-identifiable course-improvement data — such as tee, green, and fairway positions and elevation — from how players actually play, and combine it across many rounds to improve map accuracy for all players. This derived data carries no account, device, or session identifier and no time of day, and cannot be linked back to you. Individual contributions are pooled and, once a location is confirmed from enough independent rounds, the raw contributions are deleted.

Improving our AI. Usage data may be anonymized and retained for AI improvement purposes. Anonymized data that cannot reasonably be linked to any individual may be retained after account deletion.

Your consent and choices. You accept this policy when you first launch the app, and you grant location access through your device’s permission prompt — these are the points at which this use is disclosed. Because the derived datasets above contain no personal information and are not linked to you, there is nothing personal to opt out of, and they are not affected by account deletion. (This is separate from your advertising choices, described in Section 8.)

4. How we share your information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with other companies for their own advertising. We share it only with service providers who process it on our behalf, and only as needed to operate SmartCaddie. They fall into these categories:

Your information is processed and stored primarily in the United States (see Section 10). We may also disclose information if required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and our service.

5. Data retention

DataHow long we keep it
Account, profile, subscriptionUntil you delete your account (or after a long period of inactivity — see below)
Rounds, holes, and shotsUntil you delete your account
Caddie advice cacheUp to 90 days
Weather snapshotsUp to 12 months
Security event logsUp to 90 days
Vision imageryRetained only as needed to provide and improve the Vision features
Anonymized course-improvement dataDeleted once a location is confirmed; unconfirmed data within 12 months
Anonymized AI-improvement dataRetained on an ongoing basis (not linked to you)

If your account is inactive for an extended period (about 24 months), we will notify you and then anonymize or delete your personal data.

6. Your rights and choices

You can request to access, correct, or delete your personal information. If you created an account, you can delete it and its associated personal data from within the app, or by emailing us at privacy@smartcaddie.golf. When you delete your account, we remove your personal data from our systems; the anonymized data described in Section 3 is not deleted because it is not linked to you.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights:

We honor verified deletion requests within 30 days. To make a request, email privacy@smartcaddie.golf.

7. Location permission

The app requests location access with this explanation: “Used to calculate distances to the pin and to anonymously improve course accuracy for all players.” You can grant or revoke this permission at any time in your device settings; without it, distance and shot-tracking features will not work.

8. Advertising

On the Free tier, the app may show rewarded ads through third-party advertising networks. On iOS we ask for your permission through Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt before using an advertising identifier; in the EU/UK we show a consent prompt. You can limit ad personalization at any time in your device settings. Advertising identifiers are handled separately from the anonymized course- and AI-improvement data in Section 3.

9. Children’s privacy

SmartCaddie is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

10. International users and data location

We are based in the United States and currently offer SmartCaddie in the United States and Canada. Your information is processed and stored in the United States by the providers listed in Section 4. As we open additional regions, we will add the appropriate data-transfer protections and update this policy.

11. Security

We protect your information with encryption in transit, hashed passwords, device attestation, and edge protections against abuse. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your data and to respond promptly to any incident.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and post the new version at this URL. Material changes may also be communicated in the app.
